Paul Nixon will remain with Leicestershire for at least another year after signing a new contract with the county.
"I am absolutely delighted to sign a new deal with the club and I can honestly say that I am as excited now as when I started my professional career in 1987," he said.
Nixon, 40, made his first-class debut with Leicestershire in 1989 and in two stints with the county has managed almost 12,000 first-class runs for them. He was also briefly part of England's limited-overs team in 2007.
"After winning seven Championship games last season, we feel we can push on and are desperate to reach Division One status," added Nixon, who scored 915 runs in the County Championship last season, and also kept wicket in the Friends Provident t20.
"We have a good squad here and the youngsters give us that freshness. It's important to have a nice balance of youth and experience and that's why I am pleased to sign on again. We have lots of exciting talent coming through and it is great to be a part of that."
