Ra'anana 2nds move top in Division 2
Israel Cricket Association
June 14, 2009
The two top placed teams in Division 2 met at Hadar Yosef on Friday, and, in a a match played in an excellent spirit, it was Ra'anana who defeated the Tel Aviv Sri Lankans by 90 runs to move clear at the top of the second divsion. In other games, Lions Be'er Sheva had to settle fo a draw despite outplaying Dimona A in Be'er Sheva on Saturday, and Kiryat Gat kept themselves in touch with the leaders, easily defeating Eilat in Eilat on Saturday.
The Tel Aviv Sri Lankans were guilty of bowling too many extras, allowing Ra'anana to score 191, almost batting out their 45 overs, despite only two batsmen getting past 20. Ra'anana were far more disciplined with the ball, and with Gabi Schachat grabbing four wickets, the Tel Aviv Sri Lankans were dismissed for just 100.
Robin Shapurkar (89), Moshe Saul (82) and Samson Ashtamkar (50*) piled on the runs for Lions Be'er Sheva against Dimona A, as the hosts amassed 286 for 3 in just 35 overs. Despite leaving themselves plenty of time to take the 10 wickets needed for victory, Dimona A managed to bat out their overs, finishing on 169 for 6 as the game ended in a dull draw.
