Roger Whelan, a brisk opening bowler with no pretensions with the bat, made his debut for Ireland in the 2006 Eurasia Cricket Series, going on to make his ODI debut against India in 2007 and claimed Sachin Tendulkar as his first scalp. But at the end of the summer he announced his retirement, not only from international cricket but from the game entirely. When he's not on the field he's the lead singer for The Stimulants. He has two sisters who also play for Ireland
