Andy joined his brother Mark in the Irish side this year, becoming the latest set of brothers to play in the same Irish team. They are also both in the squad for Malaysia in the I.C.C. Tournament. Interestingly in the I.C.C. Tournament in Kenya Ireland also had a set of brothers, Paul and Charlie McCrum.
Andrew is primarily a forcing early order batsman, both as an opening bat and lower down the order. In his first match against M.C.C. he showed no sign of nerves when in the second innings after Ireland lost 2 early wickets he added 206 for the third wicket with Angus Dunlop - a record for this wicket in all Ireland's matches.
He also in that match took over as wicket-keeper when Allan Rutherford was injured. This is a role he fulfils regularly for his Club and the dismissal c Patterson A.D. b Patterson M.W. has become a familiar one to opponents. With Mark being offered a contract by Surrey it may disappear at Club level but Irish supporters hope that it will be seen in Irish matches, even if Andrew does not keep wicket but gets his catches in the field.
