Ryan forms the other half of a very young Irish New Ball opening attack, with Mark Patterson. As with Mark he travelled to England this year, in his case for a trial with Glamorgan 2nd XI.
Since his debut he has been an aggressive opening bowler, if not yet quite achieving the same level of success as his partner. He has shown good ability as a late order batsman with a maiden half century is his debut first class match against Scotland in 1996.
