Gareth Batty, Sajid Mahmood, Owais Shah and Vikram Solanki have been called into England's one-day squad for the forthcoming series against India. The quartet will replace Ashley Giles, Simon Jones, Michael Vaughan and Marcus Trescothick who were in England's original 16-man squad.
Injuries have ruled out Giles, Jones and Vaughan from the entire series, and the trio will continue their rehabilitation from injury in the UK. Andrew Flintoff will continue to deputise as captain for Vaughan.
Trescothick has been released from the whole of the tour owing to undisclosed personal reasons, but he confirmed that he would be back this summer and that he will play for Somerset, as expected. "I'm naturally disappointed to be missing the tour of India," he said, "but it is my intention to play cricket for Somerset this summer and also to make myself available for England selection for this summer's international programme."
Batty, Mahmood and Solanki will have to leave the England A tour of the West Indies to head to Jaipur on March 21 and they will be joined by Kabir Ali, who was an original member of the ODI squad. Shah is already in India, having been drafted into the Test squad to replace Vaughan.
David Graveney, England's chairman of selectors, said: "The four individuals we have chosen as replacements performed well in the West Indies with England A and will all be looking forward to the challenge of playing in a one-day series in India. It's an excellent opportunity for each player concerned to press for a regular place in the one-day side as we continue to build for next year's World Cup."
Revised England squad Andrew Flintoff (capt), Kabir Ali, James Anderson, Gareth Batty, Ian Bell, Ian Blackwell, Paul Collingwood, Steve Harmison, Geraint Jones (wk), Sajid Mahmood, Kevin Pietersen, Liam Plunkett, Matthew Prior, Owais Shah, Vikram Solanki, Andrew Strauss
