Rajasthan Royals' petition in the Bombay High Court, challenging their expulsion from the IPL, has been adjourned once again. The hearing will now take place on November 15 after both parties sought an adjournment for the Diwali vacation from November 1 to 14.
Rajasthan had filed the petition against the BCCI's decision to terminate the franchise on October 25. The matter was slated for hearing on October 29 but both the franchise and the BCCI sought an adjournment yesterday. The BCCI's decision against the franchise was taken on October 10, on charges of transgression of shareholding and ownership norms that threatened to "shake the very foundation of the tender process". The Kings XI Punjab franchise was also terminated by the BCCI on the same day.
In a statement issued at the time of going to court, Rajasthan said, "We do not understand what we have done wrong, and it is therefore our duty to the fans of the IPL, our employees, our players and our partners to pursue the matter."
The BCCI had contended that Rajasthan violated the franchise agreement on three counts:
* Violation of the tender process, as Jaipur IPL Cricket Private Limited stepped into the shoes of the original bidder, Emerging Media (IPL) Limited, without being a "group company or entity controlled by the bidder."
* Despite the franchise agreement stating that no change of control can occur in the first three years, Rajasthan restructured its ownership pattern twice - in March 2008 and January 2009.
* "Incorrectly" including Jaipur IPL Cricket Private Limited as the firm holding the franchisee rights, and providing wrong information about its corporate structure.
