Suspended IPL chairman Lalit Modi has filed additional documents to bolster his demand for the removal of interim IPL chairman Chirayu Amin and BCCI vice-president Arun Jaitley from the disciplinary committee that is hearing his case.
"Additional submissions on the issue of recusal as set out in the disciplinary committee meeting on July 16 in Mumbai have been filed late last night," Modi's lawyer Mehmood Abdi told PTI. Copies of the documents have been sent to the three members of the committee, as well as BCCI president Shashank Manohar and board secretary N Srinivasan.
The committee had given Modi's lawyers until July 18th to make any further submissions. According to Abdi, the papers could not be submitted on the 18th as senior counsel Venkatesh Dhond was indisposed.
"Now as per the schedule of the disciplinary committee, the BCCI will respond to these additional submissions by July 25," Abdi said. "Thereafter, the issue of recusal as demanded by Lalit Modi shall be finally argued before the disciplinary committee in New Delhi on July 27."
Modi has repeatedly demanded the removal of Amin from the panel, claiming he holds a grudge because Modi revealed he was part of a failed bid for one of the two new IPL franchises. Modi's lawyers have also argued Jaitley should not be on the panel either because he had voted to ratify the charges against Modi at the board's special general body meeting on July 3.
Lalit Modi's petition to the Bombay High Court to quash the BCCI's proceedings against him and appoint an independent panel to hear his case was dismissed by the court last week.
