Mohnish Parmar, the spinner from Gujarat, has had his bowling action cleared by the Indian board (BCCI). Parmar's action first came under scrutiny in April 2006 ahead of the Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

The BCCI confirmed to the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) that a panel comprising S Venkatraghavan, Javagal Srinath and AV Jayaprakash had passed Parmar's action. "We have got a positive response from the committee regarding Mohnish. However, Amit has not been cleared," said GCA secretary Rajesh Patel.

Parmar will be available to play in Gujarat's second second Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu next week. However, the GCA is not willing to take any chances and will send Parmar to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore where he will work with GCA consultant Aunshuman Gaekwad. Gaekwad, the former Indian batsman, was instrumental in getting Parmar to fix his problem by having him bowl with a more side-on action.

"We have worked hard on Mohnish's action for the past three weeks. His daily practice stretched over six hours," said chief coach Vijay Patel. "I hope his new action will be cleared by the NCA. Moreover, Jayaprakash and Srinath are in Bangalore. So, if required, they will do the needful."

The Gujarat fast bowler Amit Singh, who came into prominence when he was signed on by the Rajasthan Royals for the second edition of the IPL in South Africa, has not been cleared. Singh was reported twice in South Africa and subsequently was allowed to bowl in the tournament, but the BCCI has not been so lenient.
