New Zealand A 315 and 107 for 3 (Guptill 41) lead India A 276 (M Vijay 98, Pujara 80, Redmond 4-30) by 146 runs
Scorecard

Having lost momentum on day two due to an insipid batting collapse, New Zealand wrested control over proceedings on day three in Chennai. They dislodged a threatening fourth-wicket partnership early in the day and dismissed India A for 276, with the bowlers keeping it tight and the fielders backing up with some good catching. A first-innings lead of 39 was then extended to 146, though three wickets before stumps took some gloss off the day's efforts.

India A, thanks to M Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara, had rallied well the evening before. But Vijay didn't last that long into the first session, dismissed for 98 by Nathan McCullum after adding 99 with Pujara. McCullum took some stick from Vijay on day two but came back to finish with 2 for 105 from 44 overs. Pujara, overnight on 49, was dismissed by New Zealand international Iain O'Brien for 80, and from 221 for 5 India could only make 276. Aaron Redmond picked up four wickets with his legspin - figures of 7.1-2-15-4 today - to choke the lower order.

Redmond made 5 with the bat, dismissed in the fifth over by RP Singh, but Mark Guptill and Peter Fulton added 60. Fulton hit 33 from 34 balls, including two big sixes off Amit Mishra, before the bowler had his revenge when Fulton swung and missed one. Guptill was the next to go, for 41, lbw to Suresh Raina. New Zealand finished the day on 107 for 3.
