The BCCI will hold its annual general body meeting on January 27 in Kolkata to enable its newly-elected office bearers to take over. The meeting was supposed to take place on September 29 and 30 but an interim order from the Chennai civil court had prevented its completion.

SK Nair, the BCCI secretary, said that the meeting was being held as per direction of the Supreme Court so that the tenure of the previous board, headed by Jagmohan Dalmiya, could come to an end and the new board could take over. Nair told Press Trust of India that the affiliated members of the board have been informed about the meeting.

Earlier on Monday, the Supreme Court had directed the BCCI to expeditiously convene the incomplete AGM for the purpose of taking over of the new board headed by Ranbir Singh Mahendra. The court's common order had read: "The AGM should conclude its proceedings even if it cannot transact business on the agenda pertaining to nomination of Dalmiya as patron-in-chief and his nomination as the representative of BCCI to ICC."

The Supreme Court of India had earlier approved the BCCI's recent elections by staying a Madras High Court order that appointed an interim administrator to observe the conduct of the elections. However, the Supreme Court barred Jagmohan Dalmiya from becoming patron-in-chief of the board while also sending back all other issues related to the voting, including the matter of the president's casting vote, to the Madras High Court. It had advised that the adjourned annual general meeting be concluded even if matters pertaining to Dalmiya's nomination as patron-in-chief could not be conducted.
