An offspinner, Muddiah met with modest success in his two Tests. In the first game against Australia at New Delhi in 1959-60 he finished wicketless. He was more successful against Pakistan at Kanpur, the next season with figures of 1 for 62 and 2 for 40. He took the wickets of Mushtaq Mohammed in the first innings and
dismissed both openers Hanif and Imtiaz in the second. A useful tailender, he scored 11 at No. 10, helping Polly Umrigar to add 61 runs for the ninth wicket.
Muddiah had a more successful Ranji Trophy career. He captured 123 wickets (21.00). He took a hat-trick for Services against Eastern Punjab in 1955-56. In 1961-62 he had the remarkable figures of 5 for 2 for Services against Jammu &
Kashmir. He died in Bangalore on October 1, 2009.
