Kapil Dev, the former allrounder and captain of India, has said that though Rahul Dravid is a brilliant batsman, he is not commanding enough, adding that he tends to "go with the flow". Kapil felt that on the field Dravid looked like a captain from an altogether different era.

"Make no mistake, Dravid is a brilliant batsman with a flawless game and there is no deficiency in his thinking either," Kapil told a TV channel. "But the impression I get after seeing him leading the side is that here you have a captain from the 1950s, '60s or the '70s. I thought he would make a strong captain but at times you don't really feel so when you see him on television."

With Sourav Ganguly returning to the side Kapil's advice to Dravid was to stay positive. "It must not bring any kind of uncertainty in the team and at any cost, it should not allow the atmosphere to worsen and affect the team's show.

Ganguly would have to motivate himself and his team-mates even though he was no longer the captain, Kapil said, adding that everyone would be happy to see him get some runs. "There was no question about Sourav's ability or talent. He is one of the finest left-handers India has produced and also one of the best strokemakers of the world. He is a great cricketer who played and led the team with aplomb."

Kapil was less than ecstatic about Greg Chappell's coaching methods saying that it was hard to find reasons behind so many experiments Chappell had tried out as it that created a sense of insecurity among the players.
