Sambit Bal on Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar has ruled himself out of India's tour to West Indies because he hasn't recovered sufficiently from his shoulder injury. Cricinfo's Amit Varma discusses this with Cricinfo's editor, Sambit Bal, who points out that this Indian team is far less reliant on Tendulkar than it once used to be, but that he nevertheless wields an intangible influence in the dressing room, and will be missed.
Sambit also tells us about Tendulkar's tragedy - that the best years of his career coincided with India's weakest phase as a team. However, he says that "instead of living a lament, I think we should look to enjoy what he still can offer us in the next couple of years."
