Scorecard and ball-by-ball commentary
Big hundreds from Seren Waters and Steve Tikolo put Kenya in pole position at the end of the third day at the Maple Leaf South-West Ground in Toronto. Set a target of 446, Canada lost Rizwan Cheema and Sandeep Jyoti in the final 15 overs of the day, leaving them with a mountain to climb on the final day.
Canada would have fancied their chances when Kenya resumed on 12 for no loss, with Henry Osinde striking in the fourth over of the day to have David Obuya caught behind for 12. Alex Obanda exited the next over, caught by Cheema off Umar Bhatti, as the visitors slipped to 32 for 2.
But it was a one-sided contest from then on as Waters and Tikolo played themselves in and looked increasingly at ease. Tikolo, who looked to have got a fresh lease of life after giving up the captaincy, followed strongly from his 158 in the first essay, smashing 21 fours and two sixes during his 207-ball stay. He had the perfect partner in Waters who stroked 19 boundaries in his 268-ball innings, as the third-wicket partnership yielded 330 runs. Canada had to toil hard in the field with skipper Ashish Bagai using eight bowlers in an effort to break the alliance.
It was Tikolo's dismissal which finally brought about the declaration with Maurice Ouma choosing to give his bowlers a shot at the opposition late in the day. Kenya met with immediate success, with Thomas Odoyo trapping Cheema leg before in the fifth over. Jyoti succumbed to spinner Hiren Varaiya after a flourishing 42-run second-wicket stand with Abdool Samad to leave Canada at 56 for 2.
