Scorecard
Ryan ten Doeschate broke an Intercontinental Cup record as he amassed an unbeaten 259 to help Netherlands to within sight of an innings victory over Canada in Pretoria. ten Doeschate's knock breaks the record set by David Hemp only two weeks ago when he scored 247 for Bermuda against Netherlands.
He faced 314 balls, hitting 28 fours and five sixes against an honest but limited Canada attack. Only Peter Borren (49) could stay with him for any length of time though, and in the end he ran out of partners as Netherlands were all out for 409, a huge lead of 306. Sunil Dhaniram was the pick of the Canadian attack with 3 for 58.
Canada's innings began in decent style but they lost wickets at regular intervals and at the close were 194 for 5, still 113 runs short of making their opponents bat again. Their hopes rest with captain Qaiser Ali, who remains unbeaten on 76, having shared in a partnership of 88 with Ashish Bagai, who was trapped leg before by Borren for 57. Daan van Bunge claimed three wickets by the close and the Canadians have an uphill battle ahead of them to make this match last the distance.
