Duncan Fletcher, the former England coach, has signed on as a consultant with Hampshire after months of negotiations ended successfully.

During his one-year term, Fletcher will conduct an audit of the county's coaching procedures and work with coach Tony Middleton and team manager Giles White. "Duncan will act as an advisor and bring a wealth of experience to the club," Rod Bransgrove, Hampshire's managing director, told the Telegraph. "They [Middleton and White] will decide how to use his talents and I am sure they will draw a lot from him."

This will be Fletcher's first coaching assignment in England since he resigned as the national coach following an unsuccessful World Cup 2007 campaign. Before that he had coached Glamorgan, who won the Championship in 1997 under his charge. Hampshire came third in the Championship's first division last season.
