Jaffna schools send strong message

The second day easily belonged to the underdogs creating all sorts of surprises and unexpected early exits for some of the tournament favorites.

The second day of the Glucofit Cricket sixes easily belonged to the underdogs creating all sorts of surprises and unexpected early exits for some of the tournament favorites. Tons of runs were scored and a near hat-trick, along with spectacular fielding summed up the order of the day.
Jaffna Combine Schools started off strongly by eliminating Lyceum International School with ease on Friday, before knocking off St. Thomas College, Mt. Lavinia, by four wickets. These two wins have not only given them a quarter-final placing, it also sends a strong message to the rest of the competitors in the tournament.
While the Jaffna lads stole the limelight from one end there were some great performances which managed to secure wins for Nalanda College, Ananda College, St Thomas College, Royal College, Zahira College, Dharmapala Kandy and St Peters College.
The day's highlights included a fifty by Hasitha Wickramasinghe (51*) of Dharmapala College Kandy, taking the tally to four tournament fifties. Wickramasinghe also leads the sixes tally with eight from two matches, while Nuwan Darshana of St Thomas College heads the individual runs table with 79 off his two outings. Mohamed Hilam of Zahira College has four wickets from two matches with an average of 5.25.
The confirmed quarter finalists for tomorrow are Lumbini, Mahanama College Colombo, Jaffna Combine Schools and Ananda College, Colombo.
