The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has appointed Gill McConway as its new National Manager for Women's Cricket.

Gill takes over from Barbara Daniels at the ECB on 10 October, just six weeks before England arrive in her native New Zealand for the seventh women's cricket World Cup. The World Cup starts on 29 November.

Gill played cricket for England (1984-88) and has been a selector for England and Middlesex. She has held many cricket committee and administrative posts at Club, County and National level.

Gill joins the ECB from the Thomas Cook Group as Leisure and Healthcare Manager of a large, prestigious leisure complex in Peterborough. She has held several management positions in the leisure industry and has gained a wealth of experience in both public and private sectors.

Gill was born in New Zealand, moving to England at the age of 23 and now lives in Cambridgeshire. She is a sports enthusiast and has played hockey and squash to a high standard, as well as cricket.

Speaking today on her appointment, Gill said "I am delighted to be joining the ECB, and can't wait to start. It's a great time for Women's Cricket, with Sport England funding four women's club cricket development officers as well as revenue funding for the national team. The World Cup is coming up, and there is a 26% rise in the number of women playing. As a former player and administrator, I hope I can make a positive impact on the game at all levels."

Tim Lamb, Chief Executive of the ECB confirmed "The foundations are in place now to develop the women's game from schools and clubs to the England team. We are delighted Gill is joining us; her experience will be invaluable in continuing to take the women's game forward."
