Worcestershire have appointed opening batsman Daryl Mitchell as their captain for 2011 and secured his services with a new four-year contract.
Mitchell took over on a temporary basis for a memorable final five weeks of the season after Vikram Solanki quit following the defeat against Glamorgan at Colwyn Bay. He lost only one game in charge and helped them pull off promotion from Division Two of the County Championship.
Mitchell was a product of Worcestershire's academy system and made his debut five years ago. Now appointed captain on a permanent basis, he committed his future to the county until the end of the 2014 season.
Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes said: "I am absolutely delighted that Daryl's services of captaincy are secured for next season, and that he has committed his future to the club with a four-year contract.
"I am enjoying working with Daryl, and look forward to seeing his progression as captain." Mitchell, who made 1,180 first-class runs this year, said "I am very pleased to commit my future to Worcestershire and it is an honour to be made captain."
