Mick Newell, the Nottinghamshire director of cricket, will coach England Under-19s on their tour of Bangladesh this month. He replaces Andy Pick, who has taken up a new role as ICC development performance manager for the Americas.

Newell is a well-respected coach on the domestic scene and Nottinghamshire finished second in this year's County Championship - albeit a distance short of Durham.

"His knowledge, skills and experience will be an invaluable asset to the England U19s team as they prepare for an important winter which will include a World Cup in New Zealand early in the New Year," said Hugh Morris, the managing director of England cricket. "It's a great opportunity for Mick and we are very grateful to Nottinghamshire for their help and support in making this happen."

Newell said that his first role with a representative side was something he had long aimed for. "I've never been involved with an international team or a representative side but it's something that I've always aspired to and this tour is the ideal starting point for me," he said. "I have already seen some of the players in first-class cricket and am looking forward to doing more work ahead of the tour with the full squad at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough. "
