Yorkshire have signed 22-year-old allrounder Lee Hodgson from Surrey on a two-year deal.

Hodgson made his first-class debut for Surrey in the final game of the 2008 season, against Nottinghamshire, as their relegation was confirmed. However, he impressed while making 63 and Martyn Moxon, Yorkshire's director of cricket, had already seen promising signs.

"Lee is someone who impressed us when he played for Surrey's second team at York last year," Moxon told the Sheffield Star. "He is an allrounder who bowls at a decent pace, and has the ability to score runs. He became available at the end of the season and we regard him as a very good prospect and an investment for the future."

Hodgson, who was born in Middlesbrough, is delighted to be moving north. "It's my home county, and it was my dream as a young lad to play for this club," he said. "I popped in to Headingley yesterday to undergo a medical and want to move down as soon as I can, as I can't wait to get started."
