Mark Ramprakash capped a remarkable season by being named the Professional Cricketers' Association Player of the Year.

Ramprakash, 37, who helped Surrey achieve promotion in the Championship by scoring 2211 runs at 105.28, secured the most votes from his fellow players. Although he played the last of his 52 Tests almost five years ago, his appetite for runs remains undimmed.

"I am delighted with the way things have gone this year," he told the audience at London's Royal Albert Hall. "I really want to thank my Surrey team-mates and in particular [Surrey coach] Alan Butcher, who has taken the time to get to know me. Things just clicked for me this year. I don't know why really. You work hard every year but things have just clicked for me."

For the second year running the winner of the PCA Young Player of the Year, again voted by the players, was Essex and England's Alastair Cook. Since winning the award in 2005, Cook has played nine Tests and two ODIs, and he underlined his class when he became only the 16th Englishman to make a hundred in his maiden Test. Through consistently impressing at Essex and achieving back-to-back centuries against Pakistan this summer, he has made himself an invaluable addition to the England squad.

The ECB special award went to David English, who started the famous Bunbury Cricket Club 20 years ago and has seen the likes of Cook and Bell graduate to full Test honours. The PCA special merit award went to Dennis Amiss, the former England batsman who until last year was Warwickshire's chief executive.
