A left-arm bowler, Ian Jones spent time at Durham before joining Somerset in 1999. His progress was stalled in 2000 when he missed the entire summer with an ankle injury and he was released at the end of 2001. He was signed by Middlesex for one season but played mainly one-day games with no real success and he was not re-signed. His best performance came for Somerset in 2001 when he took 3 for 14 in a one-day match at The Oval. He was summoned from the stands when Richard Johnson went down with food poisoning.
