Mark Footitt is a young left-armer with the ability to bowl seriously quickly. Sourav Ganguly was his first wicket in first-class cricket as he took 4 for 45 against Glamorgan on debut in 2005. He was named in the England Academy squad that winter, and was chosen to play for the MCC against his own county in the traditional curtain-raiser to the season in 2006. He took his maiden five-wicket haul, 5 for 45, against the West Indies in August that year. Mark's career has been held up by injuries, causing him to pull out of an England Under-19 tour in 2004-05 amongst other things. With Ryan Sidebottom and Stuart Broad both involved with England, if Footitt can stay fit more chances should come his way. But he failed to reach the heights of the two aforementioned bowlers, partly owing to further injuries, and he was consequently released from his contract at Nottinghamshire toward the end of 2009.
