David Follett was a brisk opening bowler with a good faster ball whose career was blighted, and ultimately ended, by injury. He came late to the professional game, being signed from Staffordshire (after turning out for three county 2nd XIs as well) and making his debut for Middlesex in 1995 aged 26, and in the first two Championship matches of 1996 (his third and fourth first-class outings) he took 5 for 94 against Gloucestershire and a career-best 8 for 22 against Durham. However, a shin injury limited him to four appearances that summer, although he headed the county averages with 23 wickets at 19.91. At the end of the year he moved to Northamptonshire for domestic reasons, but further injuries restricted him to only 11 first-class and 14 one-day appearances in three seasons.
