Whitgift School hosted a National League match between Surrey and Warwickshire in 2000 as part of the school's 400th anniversary celebrations - that David Ward, the former Surrey batsman, was cricket coach at the school helped - and so successful was the venture that more matches were staged in subsequent years, including Championship games from 2003. Initially, these were held in the summer holidays but more recently they have coincided with half term at the end of May.
The only permanent structure is the pavilion, but one side, which houses the majority of spectators, is a massive grass bank topped by large trees, affording an excellent view and shelter from the sun/rain.

The ground is just off the A235 Brighton Road in Croydon and there is ample parking in and near the ground. The nearest station is South Croydon which is five minutes walk from the ground.
