Pakistan's batsmen were denied further valuable time in the middle ahead of the third Test as the second day of the tour game against Worcestershire at New Road was washed out without a ball being bowled.
The highlight of the game for the visitors was an unbeaten 40 by Mohammad Yousuf, who returned to national squad after announcing his retirement just a few months earlier, and he is set to slot back into the Test side at The Oval after ruling himself out of the Edgbaston clash.
There was some bad news, however, for Pakistan as Zulqarnain Haider, their wicketkeeper, suffered a fractured finger. Kamran Akmal is likely to return for the third Test in the event of Haider being ruled out.
The other question that needs answering is who will replace Umar Gul after he injured his hamstring last week and was ruled out of the Test series. The two other pacemen in the squad, Tanvir Ahmed and Wahab Riaz, were both in the line-up against Worcestershire but were unable to press their claims.
The other option for Pakistan would be to consider a two-spinner attack with 18-year-old Raza Hasan, a left-armer, in the squad while Danish Kaneria is currently back with Essex.
