Wyndie Hill-Smith was an opening batsman who played for Western Australia in the 1930s, and while he passed fifty four times in nine matches, he was unable to go on and build a big score. He was based in Perth as he ran Yalumba Wines' Western Australian business, but the death of his older brother in a plane crash in 1938 meant he moved back to Angaston and became manager of Yalumba at the age of 30. He built the business up into a sizeable concern, and continued to entertain touring sides on his Yalumba estate for many years. Martin Williamson
