| Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala |
Reconstruction work is carried out in major grounds whenever necessary. The Galle International Cricket Stadium, which was devastated by the tsunami in December 2004, was completely refurbished in time for the England tour in Dec 2007.
Welagedara Stadium in Kurunegala has got a facelift similar to Test venues and was the venue for the Inter-Provincial Twenty20 final (May 2008) and the Women's Asia Cup 2008 (May).
Another Test venue is being developed at Pallekele in Kandy.
SLC helps cricket clubs to improve their infrastructure facilities. Club houses are redone, sprinkler systems are installed, sight screens are provided, score boards are built, and drainage systems are improved.
Indoor nets, pitch covers and astro turfs are provided to clubs with a view to improving the standard of the game. Bowling machines and gym equipment are given to selected clubs.
Cricket materials are regularly distributed among clubs and schools. |
