And in a moment play will get under way at The Oval in South London

the pavilion steps amidst rousing applause
Paul Collingwood comes in to the England team for Simon Jones

It will be Trescothick on strike, with McGrath to bowl
Play is the call from the umpire and we're under way!

down the leg side, decent pace and carry, left alone to the keeper

        is on target, defended carefully
0.3 McGrath to Trescothick, no run, just short of a good length and

off, left alone as the ball hints at shaping away

Tidy start from McGrath, but then you've come to expect nothing
short of that of this man
Brett Lee will share the new ball with McGrath
1.1 Lee to Trescothick, no run, very full and quite pacy, the ball
swings in quite sharply and quite late and Trescothick takes the
ball on the pad as he tries to flick and misses
1.2 Lee to Trescothick, no run, full and far down the leg side, no
trouble for Trescothick in leaving this one alone
1.3 Lee to Trescothick, no run, another one slipping down the leg side,
once again left alone without any trouble at all
1.4 Lee to Trescothick, FOUR, once again Lee is off line as he slides
one onto the pads, the swing takes it further towards the leg
side, Trescothick walks across his stumps and punches that well
through square leg for the first boundary of the match
1.5 Lee to Trescothick, no run, short of a good length this time and
just on the off stump, Trescothick leaves it alone on bounce and
the ball carries well to Adam Gilchrist
1.6 Lee to Trescothick, no run, full once more, driven to cover. End of
Lee's first over, and it was not a bad one. Encouragement in terms
of swing, but the line was not the greatest

End of over 2 (4 runs) England 5/0
B Lee 1-0-4-0
AJ Strauss 0* (1b) ME Trescothick 5* (11b 1x4)

2.1 McGrath to Strauss, no run, just short of a good length and outside
the off, McGrath's wrist action gets the ball to bounce nicely and
the batsman leaves the ball well alone

well, off the middle of the bat, but to the man at mid-off

Strauss works the ball to the fine-leg region for a brace that
        gets him off the mark

GD McGrath 2-0-3-0
ME Trescothick 5* (11b 1x4) AJ Strauss 2* (7b)

stumps, played back down the pitch
3.3 Lee to Trescothick, no run, short ball banged in and no trouble for
the batsman to duck under that

the left-handed Trescothick who tucks the bat well inside the line
        of the ball
3.5 Lee to Trescothick, no run, fuller and on the off, Trescothick
defends down with soft hands, the batsmen think about a quick

        thought

        down the pitch

End of over 4 (maiden) England 7/0

A better second over from Lee, it's a maiden.
4.1 McGrath to Strauss, no run, short of a good length and outside the
off, left alone to the keeper, good true bounce here at The Oval
4.2 McGrath to Strauss, bye: FOUR, That one takes off! Bouncer banged
in and it jags sharply away after hitting the deck and almost
decapitates Shane Warne at first slip
4.3 McGrath to Strauss, no run, closer to the off and a touch fuller,
Strauss gropes awkwardly for that one like an adolescent in the
back row of a cinema, lucky not to get an edge!
4.4 McGrath to Strauss, no run, fuller this time and on the off,
defended carefully back down the pitch
4.5 McGrath to Strauss, no run, short one banged in and Strauss goes
for the pull, can't quite get hold of it and the ball passes the
edge and goes through to the keeper
4.6 McGrath to Strauss, no run, fullish and on the pads, worked to the
leg side, the man under the helmet at short-leg cleans up

through midwicket this time and another one finds the boundary

for a boundary to the vacant third-man region
