Date-stamped : 20 Nov93 - 19:42 Ind v Eng, T1, Lord's, 26-30Jul90, D5 Match Report India batted on this morning, and were obviously going for the win. Unfortunately, although runs were coming, wickets were also falling. By lunch, India had lost 6 wickets in total, and were in trouble. Kapil Dev and Tendulkar were at the crease and prob- ably represented India's last chance to save the match. In the first over after lunch, Kapil Dev attempted to hit Hemmings out of the ground as he did four times yesterday. This time he didn't middle the ball, and Lewis caught the ball on the run at long off/on (I'm not quite sure which). Tendulkar batted sensi- bly, but eventually fell to some good bowling by Fraser. Sharma, with no real reason to try and bat for two sessions, had a swing with the bat, and having picked up a few runs, was run out by Gooch. All in all, this test match has some memorable moments - even from an Indian point of view. * Gooch's amazing 333 & 123. * Kapil Dev's 4 6's in four balls to save the follow-on. * Good catching from both sides (Tendulkar, Atherton, Russell) * Fraser's bowling. India's main downfall in this match was almost certainly Azharuddin's decision to field first. Had Gooch been caught by More, things may well have been different and his surprising de- cision may well have been vindicated. Thanks to Martyn Shortley, T.V.Raman on r.s.c.
