The Surrey and former England batsman, Mark Ramprakash, has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a broken thumb.
Ramprakash, 39, sustained the injury during Surrey's first innings against Kent, when facing Simon Cook. He fell to the same bowler for 46 and will be unavailable for the final three Championship matches of Surrey's season, along with their last three Pro40 matches.
His merciless run-scoring, prior to this injury, remains unabated and he sits at the top of the Division Two run-scoring charts with 1350 at an average of 90.00. Only Marcus Trescothick, in Division One, has scored more runs (1521 at 80.05).
Ramprakash's form was not enough to yield an England comeback, however, despite being tipped for a sensational comeback in the fifth and final Ashes Test this summer.
