Newman extends Nottinghamshire stint

Opening batsman Scott Newman has extended his one-month loan deal with Nottinghamshire from Surrey and will now play for the county until the end of the 2009 Championship season.

"The deal is essentially an extended trial for Scott and we'll monitor his performances between now and the end of the season," Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell said. "I think that a number of counties will be interested in securing his services next season but we were keen to take the opportunity to have a closer look."

Newman began his stint with Nottinghamshire by scoring 87 against Somerset in July and will be in the XI to face Hampshire at Trent Bridge this week.
