Wayne Madsen has signed a two-year contract with Derbyshire, committing to the club after scoring two centuries in four matches.
Madsen, a 25-year-old opening batsman from South Africa, made an strong early impression for Derbyshire, scoring an unbeaten 170 on debut against Gloucestershire, before carrying his bat again with 108 against Surrey.
"Since Wayne came into the team he has done exceptionally well and he has shown the priceless ability to reach three figures at the top of the order," said John Morris, Derbyshire's head of cricket. "We are delighted to have him at Derbyshire and he deserves this opportunity to become a full time professional county cricketer."
Madsen began his first-class career with KwaZulu-Natal in 2003-04 and played four seasons in South Africa before deciding to pursue his career in England.
