Kent have signed Wayne Parnell, the South African left-arm seamer, as an overseas player initially for a six-week stint. Subject to visa clearance the club hope he will make his debut in the Friends Provident Trophy against Somerset at Taunton.
Kent have been on the look out for a new signing since Stuart Clark was recalled by Australia and couldn't take up his controversial spell at Canterbury. Parnell made his ODI debut against Australia, at Perth, in January and impressed during the recent series in South Africa.
"We're delighted that Wayne has decided to come to Kent, particularly at such short notice," Graham Johnson, the chairman of cricket, said. "Graham Ford has seen him in action in recent weeks and believes he will do a fantastic job for us."
The club are in need of further pace-bowling resources with Amjad Khan and Robbie Joseph both injured and Ryan McLaren away on IPL duty.
