WICB statement on match-fixing allegations

The following statement was issued by the West Indies Cricket Board today Saturday 17 June 2000.

"We have been made aware of the article in The Times(17th June 2000 - 'Lara alleged to have placed bets').

We are assured by Brian Lara that the allegations are without foundation. As you are aware, the West Indies Cricket Team is in the UK to play cricket and we will not be participating in any further discussion on the matter.

Any further queries on these allegations should be referred to the West Indies Cricket Board.
