Boxing Day parade for White Ferns in Wellington

Basin Reserve cricket fans will have a chance to share in the CLEAR White Ferns World Cup winning glory at lunchtime on Boxing Day.

New Zealand Cricket, after learning the Australians had intended to parade the Australian team if they won the CricInfo Women's World Cup, decided after today's four-run win at Lincoln University that they would parade the White Ferns during the lunch break of the first day of the New Zealand-Zimbabwe Test.

It should be a highly popular move after what was regarded as the most thrilling World Cup final by either men or women.

New Zealand captain Emily Drumm, surrounded by seven of her brothers and sisters after the game described the feeling as "absolutely awesome" after the win.

"It was the most euphoric feeling. I've been to the lowest of low. I dropped two catches in the Lord's final in 1993 and scored a duck. How more stink can you feel than that?

"To have the crowd on the field like it was on the end was amazing.

"What a magnificent feeling at the end, created by something that you do," she said.

It had taken nearly four minutes between the 49th and 50th overs as Drumm firstly thought off-spinner Clare Nicholson had bowled her 10th over. Then when she realised she hadn't, Drumm wasn't happy with her own field placings.

"Then to get a wicket with the first ball was just sensational. What a fantastic feeling," she said.

Drumm also had a special word about the fielding of Helen Watson who secured two vital run outs, including the prized wicket of tournament top scorer Karen Rolton.

"We couldn't decide between a batsmen or a bowler, and in the end we went for a fielder.

"Her fielding today got two absolutely crucial wickets.

"But I couldn't pick a player of the team today, everyone did their job so well," she said.

Drumm also felt the win wouldn't just give a boost to women's cricket, it would give a boost to New Zealand sport overall.

"We have shown that Australians are beatable. We treated them like any other team. We know we have to play well to beat them and we did.

"Other sportspeople can take something from that. It will make other sports, men's and women's realise that if you have a dream, then belief will do it," she said.
