Lankan cricket board calling right-arm leg spinners

The Sri Lanka Cricket Board is calling for right-arm leg-spinners under the age of 22 to be sent for training at the Australian Cricket Academy.

The Cricket Board has made arrangements to send two promising spinners to be trained in Australia with the hope of utilising their developed skills in future national teams.

The qualification is that candidates should have participated in the division I, Segment `A' or `B' tournaments for 1996-97.

Those within this qualification and age group are requested to report at the NCC Board nets at 3 p.m. on May 12 (Monday).

Four-day trial Matches

The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has made arrangements to play a series of four-day trial matches with the intention of selecting an ongoing cricket pool.

The undermentioned cricketers are requested to report at Police Park, Bambalapitiya on May 13 at 9 a.m.

Team `A': Chandika Hathurusingha (captain), Chaminda Mendis, Naveed Nawaz, Mahela Jayawardena, Indika de Saram, Hemantha Wickremaratne, Chamara Dunusinghe, Amal Dalugoda, Tilan Samaraweera, Mario Villavarayan, Ravindra Pushpakumara.

Team `B': Dulip Samaraweera (captain), Sajith Fernando, Saman Jayantha, Varuna Waragoda, Sampath Perera, Batheesha de Silva, Lanka de Silva, Nimesh Perera, Niroshan Bandaratilleke, Erik Upashantha, Wendell Labrooy.

Reserves: Pradeep Hewage, Hemantha Boteju, Shantha Kalavitigoda, Bathiya Karunaratne.
