Glamorgan have confirmed Shaun Tait, the Australian paceman, as their second overseas player for next season's Twenty20 Cup, joining fellow Aussie Mark Cosgrove at Cardiff.
It was expected that Tait could be on his way to Glamorgan after Jason Gillespie, the former Australian fast bowler who was at Glamorgan last season, revealed he had recommended Tait as an option to Matthew Maynard, the Glamorgan head of cricket. Tait, 26, starred in the 2007 World Cup but has suffered from persistent injury problems since. In 2008, he took a complete break from cricket, citing mental exhaustion.
Yet when fit and firing he presents a potent option and it was confirmed that he will be available throughout the competition up to and including the final. "I am looking forward to joining Glamorgan next season," said Tait. "And particularly to playing in the brand new Swalec Stadium.
"It will also be exciting to play alongside fellow Aussie team mate Mark Cosgrove and to meet the rest of the squad, which is, an ideal balance of exciting young talent and experienced players."
Maynard is eagerly anticipating the arrival of Tait for the competition and said: "Shaun is a world class player and a household name. He chose Glamorgan over several offers he received from other counties. He is one of the quickest bowlers in the world and will complete the balance of our Twenty20 playing squad."
