Surrey 281 for 7 (Ramprakash 142*) beat Sussex 265 (Goodwin 86, Nash 52, Schofield 4-32) by 16 runs
Scorecard
Mark Ramprakash's unbeaten 142 paved the way for Surrey's 16-run Friends Provident Trophy victory over Sussex at Hove. The win lifts Surrey to third in the South Division table while defending champions Sussex are now unlikely to make the semi-finals.
Last week, Ramprakash thumped 266 at Hove in the Championship, and he continued that form with his seventh hundred of the summer. Milking a short boundary, he hit six sixes, including one into the neighbouring flats. Two balls were lost during the course of the Surrey innings.
Murray Goodwin and Chris Nash kept Sussex in the hunt with a fourth-wicket stand of 95, and while Goodwin remained there was hope, but when he holed out to long-on off Azhar Mahmood the game was up. Chris Schofield picked up four late wickets as Sussex hit out in vain at the death.
