Justin Langer believes Tom Moody will leave the Sri Lanka job after the World Cup and coach Western Australia next season. Langer, who retired from Tests in January, gave up the captaincy of his state after speaking with Moody, his former team-mate.

Moody is currently a wanted man - he has options in Australia, Sri Lanka and England - but he said last week he would wait until the World Cup was over before making a decision. However, Langer was confident an agreement had already been reached.

"I spoke to Graeme Wood, the new chief executive at the WACA, and then I rang Tom and had a talk and it fell into place," Langer said in The Age about not continuing to captain. "When I found out Tommy was coming, it seemed the right time."

Moody's family currently lives in England and he said the needs of his wife and two children would heavily influence his decision. He has been mooted as a contender for Duncan Fletcher's job, although the England coach has not publicly considered stepping down from his role despite his team's lack of success.

At the start of the year Moody withdrew from the field to guide Australia and Tim Nielsen was picked to succeed John Buchanan. The Age reported Trevor Penney would be Moody's assistant at Western Australia while Marcus North was favoured to replace Langer as captain.
