Pakistan's tour of India, well-conducted so far, was blemished when an unidentified person threw a stone at the Pakistan team bus at the Ranchi airport. The stone shattered a window after narrowly missing Inzamam-ul-Haq, who was taken aback by the incident. The team was on its way to Jamshedpur, the venue for the third one-day international, three hours away from Ranchi airport.
Mid Day quoted Saleem Altaf, the Pakistan team manager, as saying, "The stone thrown by a miscreant shattered the window as well as the mood of the team. The incident has shaken us because, so far, the boys were very relaxed, having received a lot of love and affection and hospitality in India.
"Someone threw the stone from a big crowd that had gathered outside the airport to catch a glance of the two teams. I don't know if the police managed to arrest him or what. But the incident is something we have to put behind us and concentrate on the next match."
The Pakistan team had already expressed their dissatisfaction with the travelling arrangements made for the one-day series and the selection of far-off venues. Inzamam cancelled a scheduled net session, advising the team to take rest before the game on April 9. India lead the six-match series 2-0.
