The winning captain in tomorrow's ICC Champions Trophy final will collect world cricket's largest ever tournament prize, when he walks onto the presentation podium at the R. Premadasa stadium.

Either Sanath Jayasuriya or Sourav Ganguly will collect a winner's cheque for US$ 300,000, together with the sterling silver ICC Champions Trophy, itself worth US$ 30,000.

During the course of the tournament the winning side will have collected a staggering US$525,000 in prize money, made up of:

  • $100,00 for winning both of its Pool games ($50,000 each match)
  • $125,000 as winner of its semi final
  • $300,000 for winning the final

The total prize fund for the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy stands at $1.15 million, but in addition, each of the 12 countries involved also receives $165,000 for taking part in the tournament, irrespective of whether it wins a game.
