Former Pakistan Test cricketer, Anwar Hussain who had toured India in 1952 for the inaugural Test Series soon after Pakistan was awarded Test status died in Lahore the other day.

He was reported to be suffering from liver cancer for some time.

Anwar Hussain, right arm fast medium bowler and right hand batsman was born on 16 July 1920 in Lahore. He played in 4 Tests for Pakistan scoring 42 runs and taking 1 wicket. During his First Class career which spanned the pre and post-partition of India and Pakistan from 1940 to 1955 he took 36 wickets at an average of 36.02 and hit 1511 runs at and average of 26.98.

Two years ago Anwar Hussain was named a beneficiary in the Sharjah Cup and Pakistan cricket officials finally located him via some old newspaper reports.

This sad news comes just as Pakistan cricket's 50-year anniversay is being celebrated.
