SPCL 1 - Liphook slayed by Goldstraw as BAT romp home

Left-arm pace bowler Dan Goldstraw wrecked Liphook & Ripsley with a spell of 7-12 as BAT Sports stepped up the pressure on Havant at the top of the ECB Southern Electric Premier League.

They skittled the East Hampshire side for a Premier Division 1 lowest 44 all out before romping to a nine-wicket win.

The result left Liphook & Ripsley propping up the table, marginally behind Burridge, who were beaten at Bournemouth.

BAT's 21-point haul cut Havant's lead at the top to a mere six points and set up a potential thrilling top-of-the-table clash at Havant Park next Saturday, 11am.

Havant, meanwhile, were left marooned and frustrated by a Friday afternoon cancellation of their scheduled match against Portsmouth at St Helen's, Southsea.

But Havant's disappointment hardly worried BAT, who romped to an amazing 13th successive all-day win since June 2001.

They seized the initiative directly Dave Banks on the toss, with Kirk Stewart having Hampshire YC's teenager Chris Wright caught behind at 3-1.

It all went terribly wrong for Liphook from there, with half the side back in the pavilion with only 16 runs on the board.

Goldstraw, moving the ball off the seam, proved virtually unplayable, while Stewart (3-19) frequently beat the bat.

Only South African Alistair Gray and Duncan Berry reached the dizzy heights of double figures as Liphook collapsed to 44 all out in the 31st over.

BAT lost Damian Shirazi - caught behind - in the second over, but cruised to an easy win through Dave Banks (29) and Richard Kenway (13).
