Gary Kirsten and Andre Nel will both miss South Africa's Standard Bank One-Day international in Kimberley on Sunday, it was learned on Friday.
Kirsten has a torn muscle in his right thigh and will be out for at least a week probably while Nel has been allowed to play for Easterns in their SuperSport Series match against North West in Benoni.
"Both players are being rested in accordance with the policy and rest and rotation for squad players. The policy also allows the selectors to have a look at other players," said United Cricket Board communications director Bronwyn Wilkinson.
The absence of Kirsten and Nel should mean that Boeta Dippenaar and one of Charl Langeveldt or Justin Kemp will play in Kimberley.
