Zaheer to fly to Chennai for bone scan

Indian speedster Zaheer Khan, who is suffering from a stress fracture on the right shin, will fly to Chennai on August 3 for a bone scan.

Zaheer was earlier supposed to fly out on Sunday but a team management source said the visit had been deferred after a meeting this evening where it was felt that the left-arm seamer's services were required in the India's two remaining matches in the triangular one-day series.

Consequently, Zaheer, who claimed two wickets for 30 runs in India's seven wicket victory over Sri Lanka on Saturday, would leave for Chennai on August 3 after the matches on August 1 and 2, he said.

Team physio Andrew Leipus felt that Zaheer Khan could withstand the pressure for two more matches.

The source said there was no change in the programme of medium pacer Ashish Nehra and batsman VVS Laxman who would return to India after the one-day series to have a check-up of their respective injuries.

Nehra is nursing a groin injury while Laxman is suffering pain in his knees for which he will have to undergo a surgery. Laxman's surgery will take at least four weeks to heal and he could be out of the three Test-series against the Lankans from August 14.

Nehra, who was probably carrying the injury before Lankan tour, may be out of action for two months and may return home after the triangular series.
