 Profile

An exciting allrounder and outstanding cover fielder who debuted in the NSWIS Blues in 2001, Alex Blackwell captained New South Wales Under-19s to their 13th consecutive Australian Championship and was also deservedly awarded the NSW Under-19 Player for that year. Selected in the Australian Youth Team in 2001-02, she was the highest run scorer in their four match series against New Zealand.

She was promoted up the batting-order to replace one of the opening spots vacated by the retirements of Belinda Clark and Lisa Keightley. It is a position she has filled for New South Wales in the Women's National Cricket League, and which saw her accumulate the third highest run tally in the competition for last season.

Her batting talents were also on show during the 2005 World Cup in South Africa where she rescued Australia in the qualifying game against New Zealand, scoring 53 to share in a match-winning 85-run partnership with Cathryn Fitzpatrick at Pretoria.

She hails from Yenda in southern New South Wales, is vice-captain of her state team, the New South Wales Breakers, and after studying medicine she went on to be a university lecturer, beginning her new career while hosting England in the 2007-08 Ashes tour.
