Profile

Ishwar Maraj is a useful left-handed upper-order batsman who excels at finding the gaps and keeping the scoreboard moving in one day-cricket. He is particularly strong behind the wicket, using a mixture of cuts, glances and deflections to work the ball around, but can also drive well, and has a solid defence. Before coming to Canada he played high standard club cricket in Trinidad and also has coached and played professionally in the U.K. He had a strong showing in the 2001 ICC Trophy with three half-centuries, none more important that the 50 in the win over Scotland that took Canada to the World Cup. He carried his bat for 53 in Canada's World Cup match against South Africa, a painstaking innings that set a record for the slowest World Cup half-century (Dave Liverman 2002, 2003).
